Gas prices rise slightly across the country, but still trending down in WNY

Gas prices have gone up slightly across the country, but in NYS and WNY, the price of gas is still going down.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The national average for a gallon of gas has gone up 3 cents since last week, but locally gas prices are mixed.

According to AAA, while the national average for the price per gallon of gas has risen slightly, the New York average price is actually down one cent since last week and down in most places across WNY. 

  • Batavia - $3.33 (up 2 cents from last Monday)
  • Buffalo - $3.40 (down 3 cents from last Monday)
  • Elmira - $3.30 (up 2 cents from last Monday)
  • Ithaca - $3.52 (down 4 cents from last Monday)
  • Rochester - $3.45 (down 2 cents from last Monday)
  • Rome - $3.56 (down 3 cents from last Monday)
  • Syracuse - $3.40 (down 2 cents from last Monday)
  • Watertown - $3.44 (down 2 cents from last Monday)

Gas prices have fallen from a record high of $5 from this past summer.

There's some good news around diesel prices as well. Diesel Fuel prices have gone down slightly as the national price per gallon of gas was reported at an average of $4.60 which is 5 cents less than last week.

AAA recommends that drivers conserve fuel by avoiding peak traffic times, researching map routes, combining errands to one trip, and removing any bulky items from car that could affect acceleration.
