Gas prices continue to rise in Western New York, although increase has slowed

While demand is dropping, prices are expected to remain high while oil prices are above $80 per barrel, according to AAA.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Gas prices have continued to rise since last week, although the pace has slowed down from the last couple of weeks.

In Buffalo, the average price of gas is up two cents from last week to $3.47 and in Batavia gas prices are up one cent to $3.46, according to AAA.

The national average price for a gallon of gas has gone up one cent to $3.40. While prices continue to increase, price increases have slowed compared to recent weeks.

Domestic stock in gasoline stocks are down and demand for gasoline has gone down, according to the Energy Information Administration. The drop in demand is what has slowed the price increases, however prices are likely to keep rising while the price for oil is more than $80 a barrel.

According to AAA, oil prices are $82 to $83 a barrel as of Monday morning, which is a little lower than last week.

To help use less fuel, AAA is recommending that people try to avoid driving during rush hour, combine errand runs into one trip and use cruise control when possible. Tire pressure should also be at the car's recommended level and heavy items should be removed from the vehicle if possible.
