Neighbors in Lewiston to give input on removal of nuclear waste

The Army Corps of Engineers called the meeting after it was determined that soil and groundwater cleanup has to happen before the waste is removed.

LEWISTON, N.Y. — Neighbors in Lewiston have a chance Wednesday night to look over plans to remove nuclear waste from the area.

Specifically, it's nuclear waste from the contaminated Lewiston landfill with leftovers from the World War II Manhattan Project.

The Army Corps of Engineers called the meeting Wednesday after it was determined that soil and groundwater cleanup has to happen before the waste is removed.

New, alternative plans are being laid out at the Lewiston Senior Center at 6:30 p.m.
