Sean McDermott wants Bills offense to play 'fearless'

After Sunday's loss to the Browns, Josh Allen said he might be afraid of getting an interception on deep balls, this 'pep talk' may have come at the right time.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — After a 19-16 loss to the Browns on Sunday, Josh Allen expressed couldn't quite pinpoint why he's having trouble completing deep passes this season.

"I don't know if I'm super anxious about under throwing it and getting an interception or I don't know. You know the ball comes out and it feels good and the ball just kind of sails and carries a little longer than I think so it's something I gotta continue to work on," Allen explained.

Allen has not thrown an interception in four games and it seems like the fear of that happening is a mental hurdle he has to get over when it comes to making these deep throws.

After practice on Wednesday, Allen said head coach Sean McDermott used the word "fearless" when it comes to how he wants to see the offense play.

"Coach sat us all down today and said play fearless so to have that green light, that confidence from him still like that means a lot," Allen said.

The Bills average 19.3 points per game and only put up 14 on the Browns (the other two were from a safety).

Allen has yet to complete a pass that travels 30 yards or more through the air this season even though he did many times last year so the playing "fearless" element might be something he needed to hear.

"I'm not saying I"m gonna go out there and be reckless those are two different terms for a reason so just being very aware of what's going on but not try to be gun shy about anything," Allen explained.

"Yeah I do think there's something to that. We don't need to change everything just because we lost one game but I think we need to look at what gets us stuck in certain situations. When you think too much on a football field you don't play as fast," center Mitch Morse said.

The Bills look to bounce back at Miami this Sunday against the Dolphins who have won two straight.
