Pompey Homers Twice in Bisons Loss

Dalton Pompey homered from both sides of the plate but his two solo home runs weren't enough as the Bisons dropped a 6-5 decision to Pawtucket in 10 innings.

PAWTUCKET, RI- Dalton Pompey became the first Bisons player to hit a home run from each side of the plate in nearly a decade, but it was the Pawtucket Red Sox that walked-off with a 6-5 victory on Monday night from McCoy Stadium.

Tzu-Wei Lin hit the walk-off RBI-single in the bottom of the 10th inning in a game that got nothing short of wild after Pompey etched his names in Buffalo's record books.

The second of Pompey's two home runs, the one from the left side, tied the game at three in the top of the eighth inning. Three batters later, Danny Jansen singled home Tim Lopes to give the Bisons the 4-3 lead.

That's when the Rhode Island winds took over. With two outs in the bottom of the eight and a runner on first, Rusney Castillo hit a pop up behind shortstop that somehow fell between Gift Ngoepe and the charging left fielder Darnell Sweeney. The two-base error allowed Jordan Bettsto score from first to tie the game.

Then after the Herd cashed in their free base runner in the 10th with a Devon Travis RBI-single, consecutive PawSox batters took advantage of second chances at the plate. Dan Butler led off the inning, and after a foul pop up fell between Rowdy Tellez and Travis, he roped an RBI-double to center to tie the game. Lin followed with a pop up into foul territory off the third base side, but that too fell between Lopes and Ngoepe. Two pitches later, Lin drove a ball well beyond the drawn in outfield for the game-winning run.

If that sequence wasn't wild enough, pinch runner Mike Miller was clearly picked off at second base when he came in to run for Butler on a perfect throw from Jansen. But Miller was ruled safe, and on the follow pitch he advanced to third on a Sam Moll wild pitch.

Prior to the craziness, Pompey became the first Bisons player to homer from each side of the plate since outfielder Trevor Crowe accomplished the feat on July 31, 2008 in Durham. Pompey pulled one into the bullpen in left field from the right side in the third inning. He picked the same spot out in the eighth with an opposite field blast while batting left-handed in the eighth.

The loss for Buffalo went to Sam Moll, who allowed two runs (one earned) in two innings of work. Up from Single-A Dunedin, Josh McGraaf allowed three runs in 3.2 innings in his first career Triple-A start. Luis Santos chipped in 3.1 shutout innings of relief.
