First Day Hikes offered across Western New York

Outdoors enthusiasts can start the new year by hiking across Western New York

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Today, New York State is offering 85 guided hikes throughout state parks, wildlife areas and historic sites so people can start 2020 being with nature. 

This is the 9th consecutive year the First Day Hikes have been offered by the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and Department of Environmental Conservation. 

Guided hikes are available across the state, but even just in Western New York, there are a plethora of options to chose from.

Erik Kulleseid, the State Parks Commissioner, said this annual day full of hikes has become an annual outing for many residents across the state. 

"The First Day Hikes have become a tradition for many New Yorkers, and are a wonderful, healthy way to enjoy the scenic beauty of our State Parks and historical sites," Kulleseid said. "There are more family-friendly events than ever for people of varying abilities to choose from across the state. "

The list of hikes and events in Western New York are listed below. 

Allegany State Park- Red House; 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

DeVeaux Woods State Park, Niagara Falls; 10 a.m.

Evangola State Park, Irving; 9 a.m.

Fort Niagara State Park, Youngstown; 2 p.m

Genesee Valley Greenway, Hinsdale; 9 a.m.

Genesee Valley Greenway, Bull Street, Cuba; 1 p.m.

Genesee Valley Greenway, Snowmobile Ride, Avon; 11 a.m.

Hamlin Beach State Park, Hamlin; 1 p.m.

Jersey Hill State Forrest/Karr Valley Creek State Forrest, Allegany County; 10:30 a.m.

Knox Farm State Park, East Aurora; 10 a.m.

Letchworth State Park, Castile; 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1 p.m.

Niagara Falls State Park, Niagara Falls; 2 p.m.

Reinstein Woods Environmental Education Center, Depew; 11 a.m.

Zoar Valley Multiple Use Area, Holcomb Pond, Cattaragus; 9 a.m.
