WNY native selected as alternate for U.S. Olympic ice dance team

East Aurora native, Kaitlin Hawayek and her partner, Jean-Luc Baker had the best performance of their careers over the weekend at U.S. Figure Skating Championships.

East Aurora native, Kaitlin Hawayek and her partner, Jean-Luc Baker had the best performance of their careers over the weekend at U.S. Figure Skating Championships.

They earned a career-best score of 187.61 and finished fourth in the ice dancing competition at the this past weekend in San Jose, California.

Not only did they turn their top performance but the pair was also named alternates for Team USA in ice dancing for the upcoming 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea.

Hawayek is also the 2014 World Junior champion, 2013 Junior Grand Prix Final silver medalist and a 2014 U.S. national junior champion.

She currently lives in Detroit but before leaving Western New York, Hawayek attended Nardin Academy.
