TORONTO, ON- The Buffalo Sabres hit the jackpot in the NHL draft lottery Saturday night. For the third time in franchise history, the Sabres will have the first overall selection in the draft.

In 2014 and 2015 the Sabres had the best odds to win the lottery but things didn't bounce their way. This time the Sabres had the best odds at 18.5 % and won the draft lottery.

With the first overall selection in 1970, the Sabres selected Hall of Famer Gilbert Perrault. In 1987, the Sabres took center Pierre Turgeon who had an outstanding NHL career.

The big prize in this draft is expected to be Swedish defenseman Rasmus Dahlin. The 18-year-old was named the best defenseman at the World Juniors in Buffalo earlier this year.

The NHL draft begins June 22 in Dallas.
