Matt Barkley sparks Bills offense in 41-10 win over Jets

Barkley threw for 232 yards and two touchdowns while LeSean McCoy rushed for two touchdowns and over 100 yards in a big win over the Jets.

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - All season the story for the Bills has been how well the defense plays while the offense either does just enough to win the game or nothing at all.

After struggling to move the ball and put up points in their four-game losing streak, it was a different script against the Jets as the offense exploded in a 41-10 win at MetLife Stadium.

Once again, another quarterback the Bills recently signed started on short notice. This time, it was Matt Barkley who the Bills signed last week after the loss to New England on Monday night football. Barkley is the fourth quarterback the Bills have started this season and he provided a much needed spark for this offense.

Granted, the opponent helped. The Jets are a mess right now but that doesn't take away from what the offense was able to do.

Barkley set the tone right from the get-go, literally. His first play was a 47-yard pass to Robert Foster who the Bills just called up from the practice squad on Saturday.

Then the next play, LeSean McCoy ran for a 28-yard touchdown and found the end zone for the first time this season. Two plays for 75 yards was how this game started.

Barkley threw for 232 yards and two touchdowns, one to Zay Jones and the other to left tackle Dion Dawkins. The Bills pulled out some tricks in this one including a fake punt where Logan Thomas connected with Foster for a 19-yard gain and the first down.

The Bills also were able to get the running game going and McCoy going. He had two touchdowns in the win and rushed for over 100 yards for the first time since the snow game against the Colts last year. He finished with 113 yards on 26 carries and those two touchdowns.

Jones ended with a new career high in receiving yards in a single game with 93 yards on eight catches and Foster had over 100 receiving yards with three catches for 105 yards.

This offense was firing on all cylinders while the defense intercepted Josh McCown twice thanks to Matt Milano and Micah Hyde. They also sacked him three times in the game.

So there's now questions as to who will start at quarterback for the Bills after the bye week. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Josh Allen is expected to return after the bye. He practiced on a limited basis but was then ruled out on Saturday as he's still recovering from that right elbow sprain.

Derek Anderson missed the game because he is still in the concussion protocol and Nathan Peterman served as Barkley's backup.

When asked about the quarterback situation moving forward, Sean McDermott would not commit to a starter after the bye week when the Bills host Jacksonville, he just said they would reassess everything when they get home.
