Josh Allen expected to return Sunday vs. Jaguars

Coming out of the bye week, Bills rookie quarterback Josh Allen was a full participant for the first time since injuring his right elbow in week six against the Texans.

ORCHARD PARK, NY - After missing the past four games with a sprained right elbow, Bills rookie quarterback Josh Allen is on track to start this week against the Jaguars.

"We're just going to continue to take it one day at a time so we'll see how he looks today, he's had some good rehab sessions," head coach Sean McDermott said.

Coming out of the bye week, Allen was a full participant at practice for the first time since his injury.

"I'm excited to see him back on the field and excited to see our team back on the field today," McDermott said.

"The comfort level obviously in the elbow is getting to where it needs to be, where I want it to be. I know we’re still taking it day by day, but coming out here, I’m going to act like I’m going to be starting on Sunday," Josh Allen explained.

Allen was limited in practice before the bye week leading up to the Bills' week ten game against the Jets but he was then ruled out the day before the game. Matt Barkley got the start at quarterback and led the Bills to a 41-10 win over the Jets but now will resume the backup duties.

"We certainly were impressed with the way Matt [Barkley] handled things but at the end of the day Josh [Allen] is our starter and we're excited to have him back," McDermott explained.

Allen also told Two on Your Side's Heather Prusak he needed that extra week of recovery when he sat out against the Jets.

"The difference that I feel in the elbow right now compared to two weeks ago, it’s a very big difference. I’m thankful that I was able to sit out for one more week and like I said, for Matt to come in and get us a victory. I got to learn a lot from that game as well. To see some of our guys go out there and make some plays and see our offense, how they performed, it was very exciting to see that and I’m looking forward to what comes," Allen said.

The Bills are now back to three quarterbacks on the roster after releasing Nathan Peterman during the bye week.

"Tough decision. Nate did everything that was asked. He's a class act through and through, I certainly appreciate everything and all the effort he gave while he was here. To carry four quarterbacks is a little bit unique for any extended period of time and so getting Josh to the point where he is allowed us to make a move there," McDermott said.

Other injury updates:

Derek Anderson is still in the concussion protocol and did not practice on Monday. Charles Clay did not either with a hamstring injury.

Matt Milano was limited and is still in the concussion protocol. Trent Murphy was also limited with a knee injury.
