ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — The Buffalo Bills announced on Twitter Thursday night that quarterback Derek Anderson is retiring from the NFL.

Just last year, Anderson came out of retirement to join the Bills. He has played a total of 14 seasons in the league.

In a statement from the Bills, General Manager Brandon Beane had this to say:

"Derek let me know a few weeks back that he wasn’t sure if he could be committed [for the season] and wanted to still think about it. So I knew going into the draft that this was something that could potentially happen. But it wasn’t definite. We talked this week and he let me know today that he is going to retire."
