ORCHARD PARK, NY - The Bills dropped their preseason opener, 28-23 to the Carolina Panthers but in the preseason, the score does not matter. It's all about individual performances. Here is a game log of the big plays from Thursday's game:
Nate Peterman getting the start at quarterback for Buffalo.
12:43 - Bills defense strong to start. Forces punt with Jordan Poyer forcing a fumble on 2nd down that the Panthers recovered.
7:17 - Nate Peterman goes a perfect 7-for-7 on an 8-play 85-yard drive and caps it with a 28-yard TD pass to Kelvin Benjamin and a 7-0 lead for Buffalo.
2:16 - Panthers respond with a 9-play 79-yard drive capped by a Christian McCaffery 2-yard TD run. Game tied 7-7.
-Nate Peterman picked off on a pass that went off running back Chris Ivory's hands. Before that, Peterman was a perfect 9-for-9 for 119-yards in the first quarter.
5:41 - Bills take a 10-7 lead on a 26-yard field goal from Stephen Hauschka. It's a 15-play 66-yard drive. AJ McCarron was 5-for-7 for 46-yards.
3:22 - Third round pick Harrison Phillips with a sack that forced a Carolina punt.
:55- Marcus Murpy with a 7-yard TD run for Buffalo. Bills lead 17-7.
-First round pick Josh Allen into the game for Buffalo. Three and out on the first series but went deep on his first throw that was caught out of bounds. Impressive arm strength on display.
11:15 - Garrett Gilbert connects with Mose Frazier on a 26-yard TD. Bills lead 17-14.
4:53 - Bills turn the ball over on downs on Allen's second series. They did move the ball effectively. As of this point, Allen is 3-of-6 for 39-yards.
12:41 - CJ Anderson 4-yard rush for Carolina TD. Panthers take a 21-17 lead.
-Josh Allen went deep on third down for Robert Foster. Threw the ball 60-yards easy and just overthrew the receiver. Allen's arm strength has been on display on two deep balls... one incomplete, and one out of bounds.
5:05 - Carolina TD - Taylor Heinicke to Elijah Hood for 21-yards. Panthers lead 28-17.
1:10 - Bills TD - Josh Allen to Ray-Ray McCloud III for 14-yards. 2-point conversation attempt failed. Bills trail 28-23.
