Clymer/Sherman/Panama Wins Class D State Championship
The Wolfpack scored 511 points and had a powerful defense which gave them the number one ranked team in the Class D state poll since week one and they won a state championship, defeating Moriah 26-6. The entire team and coaching staff were the MVP’s which demonstrated success over a 13 week journey. The Wolfpack were led by Gerrit Hinsdale JR QB who was 14 for 26 for 240 yards and 2 TDs. For the season, he passed for 2,032 yards and 23 TDs. Other key players were Derek Ecklund SR RB who rushed for 101 yards. The defense held Moriah to 153 yards in offense. The title was WNY’s 24th championship which is the third most of any section in the state.The Wolfpack return Hinsdale plus 10 other players but lose 20 to graduation. Congratulations to Ty Harper, the players, coaches, parents, and Wolfpack fans which all will remember forever.
West Seneca East Loses Heartbreaker to Cornwall 21-14
The Trojans entered the 4th quarter leading Cornwall but the opponent scored 14 points to win the Class A State Championship. Shaun Dolac ran for 178 yards, scored 2 touchdowns and recorded 7 tackles in the loss. Congratulations to Jim Maurino, the players, coaching staff, parents and Trojan fans for their remarkable and successful 13 week journey. The Trojans defeated town rival West Seneca West to give them a sectional title for the first time since 1981, won a state semi-final and played in the championship game. For West Seneca to have 2 teams play for state titles in a 2 year period was awesome for the schools and community. The Trojans will return 15 players in 2019 from the championship squad.
St Francis Loses To Archbishop Stepniac 49-7 In The State Catholic High School Athletic Association Football Title
The Red Raiders fell behind at the half 42-7. Jake Ritts passed for 259 yards and 1 touchdown. Antonio Corsi caught 9 passes for 114 yards and a touchdown while Xzavier Janczylik caught 7 passes for 101 yards. The Red Raiders finish at 5-7 and will return 24 players next season. Ritts broke the WNY season passing yards record throwing for 3348 yards, 36 touchdowns and ran for 6 touchdowns. The old record was 3184 yards held by Jake Sisson, Jamestown.
Aquinas won the Class AA title 27-14 over New Rochelle.
Cornwall won the Class A title 21-14 over West Seneca East.
Glen Falls won the Class B title 55-32 over Batavia. Ray Leach, the star RB accounted for 484 yards and 5 TDs in the loss. In 4 playoff games he accounted for 1,684 yards and 27 TDs which breaks all previously held records.
CSP won the State Class D title.
