2019 Class B-3 Preview

Purple Eagles return 14 players including 6 starters from last season’s 8-1 record. Adam Krenning’s squad will compete for league and sectional titles. They have All-WNY candidates in Brilliance Johnson, Cody Wilson and Thomas Furmenski. They host Newfane in the opener and Springville in week 2. The varsity team has a 14-3 record while the JV team has a 15-1 record in the past 2 seasons. Key to the season will be the play of the line.

Steelers look to make the playoffs for the 5th consecutive year. They have All-WNY candidates in Drew Kowalski, Jeremi’yha Presley, Javion Morales, Shyheim Smalls and Mohamed Alshawai. Other key players include Theeon Collins, Edrick Steward, and Antonio Peluso. They return 22 players and host Tonawanda in week 1. They will compete for a playoff berth.

Huskies return 6 on offense and 5 on defense led by All-WNY candidate, Nick Fratercangelo. Other key players include Gavin Kulp, Cole Anastasia, AJ Adotta, Sam Mest and Nick Pantuso. JVs are 14-2 in the past 2 seasons. They host Dunkirk and Pioneer in their first 2 games. Key to the season will be the play of the QB. They will compete for a playoff berth and return 13 players. Phil Vecchio has a 17-9 record in 3 years.

Mark Heichberger, former JV head coach and varsity assistant, takes over at Springville. Griffiths return 5 starters on offense and 3 on defense. They return 14 players this season. They have All-WNY candidates in Nick Emmick. Other key players include Masin Field and Aaron Keysor. They host the Blue Devils in week 1 and play at the Purple Eagles in week 2. They should improve. Key to the season will be the play of line and QB.

Wildcats look to rebound from a 2 win season. They only return 2 starters on offense and 3 on defense. They have All-WNY candidates in Zach Tominich and Matt Russo. Other key players include Nathan Kulesz, Cody Negrych, Christian Pagano, Ethan Westfield, Logan Schwartz and Jacob Wainwright. They host Alden in the opener and play Tonawanda in week 2. They will miss Joe Pagano and return 16 players this year. The JV team did not have a win in 2018. They could have a tough time making the playoffs.
