UB Football set to play for MAC Championship

UB Football is set to take on Northern Illinois tonight in Detroit for the MAC Football Championship

DETROIT, MI - It's been a ten year wait.

Ten years since UB Football last won the MAC title. They have the chance to win it for the second time tonight.

The Bulls (10-2, 7-1) are set to face Northern Illinois (7-5, 6-2) for the conference championship at Ford Field in Detroit.

Head coach Lance Leipold says his players are in the right frame of mind.

"I think they're really excited for it. In fact, I know they're excited. It's things that they've dreamed about and talked about for an awfully long time. The way they've gone about the week and prepared, I know they're ready for kickoff," sai Leipold.

This Bulls team has already broken ground, winning ten games for the first time in school history. Seven of those wins came in conference which is also the most UB has ever won. They are a dynamic team that can attack opponents on the ground and through air. They are just a single point shy of matching the school record for points in a season. They've scored 423 through 12 games. Back in 2008, they scored 424 in 14.

Tonight, they face the challenge of the top ranked defense in the conference.

For what it's worth, history does not favor UB in this match-up. They have gone 0-10 against NIU since the school joined the Mid-American Conference back in 1999. According to UB Sports Information, the last time they beat Northern Illinois was back in 1968.

Tonight's game kicks off at 7:00pm. It will be broadcast on ESPN2.
