DETROIT - This was an absolute heartbreaker.
UB blew a 19-point third quarter lead to lose the MAC title game to Northern Illinois 30-29.
Buffalo built a 22-10 lead in the first half that included a pair of Tyree Jackson touchdown passes to top receiver Anthony Johnson. Jaret Patterson scored in the third quarter to give the Bulls a 29-10 lead.
That's when the tide turned and the Huskies scored 20 unanswered points.
Marcus Childers threw four touchdown passes on the night, the last of which was to D.J. Brown with 1:09 left to put the Huskies ahead 30-29. They failed on the two point conversion, but UB turned it over on downs in coming up short.
The Bulls are now 0-12 against Northern Illinois since joining the Mid-American conference in 1999.
With a school record ten wins during the regular season, UB should expect to hear its name called when the bowl match-ups are announced on Sunday.
