ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Ryan Fitzpatrick represents a lot of what is right about pro sports.  A Harvard background, a smart friendly demeanor and an overachieving mentality.

He also represents part of an era where the Bills went 17-years without making the playoffs.

As Buffalo looks to improve on a 4-1 start in year three of the McDermott/Beane era, the old and the new will intersect Sunday in Orchard Park.

The Dolphins (0-5) have announced that Fitzpatrick will start Sunday as opposed to second year QB Josh Rosen.

Sean McDermott gave the usual level of opponent respect when asked about the news that broke just before he took the podium for his weekly news conference Wednesday .

"They're both good quarterbacks... he's a veteran... he runs their offense well."

Fitzpatrick started the first two games of the season in losses to Baltimore and New England before Rosen replaced him.  With Miami trailing 17-3 this past Sunday against Washington, Fitzpatrick came in at the start of the fourth quarter and led a pair of touchdown drives going 12/18 for 132-yards.  Miami lost 17-16 on a failed two point conversion.

For the season, Fitzpatrick has gone 39/70 for 435-yards, throwing for two touchdowns and four interceptions.

Miami ranks last in the NFL averaging 8.4ppg.

INJURY UPDATE:

-RB Devin Singletary, who has been out since injuring his hamstring in the Bills Week two win over the Giants, will practice in full Wednesday.  McDermott was optimistic about his chances of playing Sunday, but said "we'll see how it goes for him throughout the course of the week."

-Offensive lineman Cody Ford, and defensive end Trent Murphy are practicing in full.

-LBs Matt Milano and  Corey Thompson are limited.
