ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — The numbers don't lie.

Nine games into the 2019 season, the Bills are averaging 19.3 ppg ranking 25th in the NFL. That's coming off a 14 point effort (defense scored on a safety) in a 19-16 loss to the previously 2-6 Cleveland Browns.

When asked if he's frustrated by those numbers, McDermott was short with his response.

"Am I concerned or frustrated with the success of our offense? Move the ball... score points... if we don't do that I'm frustrated," he said.

Bottom line results, that haven't been there.

With good reason, the questions continue... not only about scoring, but about the function of the offense itself.

Why don't the Bills run the ball more?

Why not get the ball in the hands of dynamic rookie Devin Singletary who had 11-touches against the Browns on Sunday?

Josh Allen was 22/41 for 266-yards and continues to struggle hitting open receivers downfield.

Allen is the 22nd in the league in passing yards, and 29th in passer rating.

Is McDermott satisfied with where things stand with his former 7th overall pick now nine games into his second NFL season?

"I think the word satisfied is... I don't think that's a word we use here honestly," McDermott said. "If we do it's not very often.  That's not a winning type mindset... whether it's a team or an individual player, myself in this case, we don't use that word. That's not a word that winners often use."

McDermott points to Allen's progress in the short to intermediate passing game, and points to success in the downfield passing game last year with Allen, suggesting his troubles this year have to do with a simple lack of execution

After Sunday's loss, Allen said he thinks he's overthrowing receivers for fear of having underthrown balls intercepted. He hasn't thrown an interception in the last four games.

McDermott says this is part of Allen's continued development.

"We're confident in Josh... We've got to continue to bring Josh along, but also  understand that he's just in his second year.. so it's a blend of how do we grow, how do we evolve, how to we develop?" He asked.

The Bills (6-3) face the Dolphins (2-7) Sunday in Miami.
