Still no agreement for downtown grocery store

The grocery project was first announced in early 2015 when the mayor expressed a desire to bring a full-service supermarket to Downtown.

BUFFALO, NY - Earlier this week, 2 On Your Side told you a representative with Tops said there's been no progress in a project meant to bring a full service grocery store to downtown Buffalo.

In his State of the City address in February of this year, Mayor Byron Brown said Tops was the preferred choice to occupy the grocery part of building that will be built where a parking lot stands on Ellicott Street near the Central Library.

At the time, Tops said they haven't entered into formal negotiations. On Thursday, we received an update from the mayor.

"They are still looked at as the preferred grocery provider at this time. I know that there have been multiple meetings. I know those meetings have been positive. We don't see any reason or need at this point to move in a different direction. But our goal is ultimately to get a supermarket provider in downtown Buffalo and we will achieve that goal,” Brown said.
