McMurray to go to D.C. for Orientation

McMurray says he's been invited down to Washington D.C. by members of Congress to take part in new member orientation.

BUFFALO, NY - Almost a week after election day, there are still thousands of absentee ballots left to be counted in the race between Democrat Nate McMurray and Republican Congressman Chris Collins.

And while that's going on, McMurray says he's been invited down to Washington D.C. by members of Congress to take part in new member orientation.

2 On Your Side got McMurray on the phone on his way to Washington Monday, and asked if this was presumptuous of him, since he's still behind by almost 3,000 votes.

"The worst thing that could happen is for someone like me to be declared a winner and then to be behind," McMurray told us. "Remember this is only a two year term. And throughout...that term will go fast. And we know that Mr. Collins will be involved in litigation throughout the course of that term if he wins. But at the same time I would have to be prepared as quickly as possible to do my duties. So I think there would be negligence of my part given the circumstances of the race if I didn't go."

McMurray says he plans to be back here for the absentee ballot count next week.
