ALBANY - Cynthia Nixon, the Sex and the City actress and education activist, will challenge incumbent Gov. Andrew Cuomo in a Democratic primary, she announced Monday.

Nixon announced her run in a video posted to her Twitter page.

The video highlights her New York roots, noting she grew up in a walk-up apartment in New York City.

"I'm Cynthia Nixon," she says in the video. "I'm a New Yorker and together we can win this fight."

Nixon faces an uphill battle against Cuomo, who has more than $30 million in his campaign account.
