HAMBURG, NY - A male has died following a water rescue attempt at Hamburg Beach Wednesday.
Hamburg Police confirmed to 2 On Your Side that police detailing the beach put the call in at 2:35 p.m. for a male kite-surfer in the water.
Lifeguards could not reach him, and by the time the Hamburg Water Rescue Team arrived, the victim was about a mile out and could not be revived.
A medical examiner has been notified, and the exact cause of his death is unknown at this time.
The victim's name has not been released as police work on contacting his family.
