Winter preparations underway in Erie County

Crews have salt and plows ready for this weekend and beyond, including new snowblower attachments for when the snow and ice get really tough for crews.

ERIE COUNTY, N.Y. - Erie County is getting ready for the winter weather this upcoming winter season.

Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz was at the highway barns on Harlem Road in Cheektowaga Thursday, where he gave an update on preparations the county is taking for Mother Nature's winterly season.

Crews have salt and plows ready for this weekend and beyond, including new snowblower attachments for when the snow and ice get really tough for crews.

"That can attach to high lifts that can handle feet of snow. So if there's areas that our plows can't get to because there's too much snow to plow, we have attachments at the ready this year to get out and blow snow off of major arterial roads," said Erie County Executive, Mark Poloncarz.

Poloncarz has added five new Volvo plow trucks to the Public Works fleet this year and will be in service by the second week of December; these new vehicles are in addition to the twenty-five dump trucks.
