Williamsville firefighters awarded Liberty Medals for saving life

It's given to people who perform exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts and achievements on behalf of others.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Two local heroes are being honored for their efforts to save a man's life.

Senator Mike Ranzenhofer awarded Williamsville firefighters Greg Smith and Lieutenant James Christopher with Liberty Medals on Wednesday.

The firefighters say they were called to the Georgetown Square apartments on Evans Street in Williamsville. The building was up in flames.

The two went inside and found the man unconscious.
