West Side park damaged after being used as a parking lot

A private party turned the area's only park, located on Massachusetts Avenue, into a parking lot.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Over the weekend a private party was held on Buffalo's West Side for several court judges, which turned the area's only park into a parking lot.

A valet parking company says they were told to park cars on the Massachusetts Avenue park, and told concerned neighbors to "ask the judge about it." Because so many cars were parked on the grass, it made the area muddy and created several ruts, damaging much of the ground at the park.

Neighbors were quick to express concerns on Facebook. Those who caused the damage say they will fix the mess.

"This morning, what happened was a success story of what happens when people who might be angry about something actually reach out and interact with each other as human beings and talk through a problem," said Stephanie Cole Adams, co-president of the West Side Park Block Club.

Adams says she was told ruts will be fixed, the ground will be reseeded and hay will be laid down in the park until the mud conditions can be fixed.
