Vehicles for Vets winner announced

The Basil Family Dealerships partnered with Veterans One-Stop Center of Western New York and the D'Youville Veterans Student Association, along with WGRZ for the 4th annual Vehicles for Vets campaign.

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Basil Family Dealerships partnered with Veterans One-Stop Center of Western New York and the D'Youville Veterans Student Association, along with WGRZ for the 4th annual Vehicles for Vets campaign, where a local veteran or active serving military member is given a vehicle.

To be nominated to win, people had to go on-line and nominate a veteran or active serving military member who they believe deserves a new car from Basil.

This year's winner is David Drew from South Buffalo. Drew served in the U.S. Army.

Drew's father was also a U.S. Veteran and says that a simple thank you means more than anyone can imagine.

"My father was in Vietnam and he didn't come back to a heroes welcome, and today people walk up and say thank you for your service and it means an awful lot."

Drew got nominated by his girlfriend, Kathy, who told 2 On Your Side that she nominated him because he truly is one of the nicest people she's ever met.

Drew said he had a feeling this morning that it was going to happen thanks to his granddaughter after she told him he had prayed about it.
