BUFFALO, N.Y. — BUFFALO, N.Y.- Unmarked graves and unknown stories surround the land where University at Buffalo's South Campus is located. A memorial garden will now honor the lives of those that died more than 100 years ago.

At 3 p.m. on Monday, UB will dedicate the South Campus Memorial Garden in honor of the people that died under the care of the Erie County Poorhouse.

Although the names of those buried on the land are unknown, the memorial includes a six-foot monument of American Black granite shedding light on the location's past.

The program, held at the garden, will include remarks by provost and vice president, Charles F. Zukoski and vice president for finance and administration, Laura Hubbard.

Also scheduled to speak are faculty members in UB's anthropology department who assisted in the process to restore and reinter the deceased.

Refreshments will be served following the ceremony in Abbott Hall.
