BUFFALO, N.Y. - National Grid is looking into two manhole blasts in Buffalo that happened Friday afternoon.
Around 5:00 p.m., a manhole cover blew off near the intersection of East Delavan Avenue and Sheridan Avenue. No one was hurt and a crew from National Grid is investigating the incident.
Earlier around 4:00 p.m., an underground explosion blew the cover off a manhole on Elm Street in Downtown Buffalo and left some nearby business without power.
It happened on the 200 block of Elm St. between Broadway and Sycamore.
National Grid says a burned out underground cable was to blame. Crews were in the process of replacing the cable. Some 20 customers, mostly businesses, were without power as a result of the incident.
National Grid is investigating what happened. No injuries were reported.
A National Grid spokesperson says there's no reason to believe these incidents are related.
