Town of Hamburg urges residents to seek help with storm damage

Financial assistance is not guaranteed, but the town's emergency manager said he wants to do all he can to relieve some of the burden for some residents.

HAMBURG, N.Y. — The Town of Hamburg Office of Emergency Services is urging residents to reach out for financial assistance for repairs that resulted from last week's Halloween storm.

"We have requested through the Erie County Emergency Services and the State of New York to have damage assessment teams come in, and we’re looking at assessing both public infrastructure and individuals’ private residences and businesses," Sean Crotty told 2 On Your Side.

Crotty is the emergency manager for the Town of Hamburg. He told 2 On Your Side's Karys Belger that financial assistance is not guaranteed, but he wants to do all he can to relieve some of the financial burden for some residents.

A Facebook post on the Emergency Services page asked residents to send their information to Crotty's office so that he can give it to assessment crews when they come to Hamburg on Friday.

Crotty also says that he wants people throughout the area and not just those living by the water to reach out.

"Really, the purpose of the post was to try and reach out to other people who may have damage because it has been highly publicized the Hoover Beach area, but we do understand that there are other parts of the community that were impacted as well," Crotty said.

Crotty also says there's plans to hold a public session with Hamburg residents to help them get more information about the process. those details are forthcoming.
