Thruway construction projects start in western, eastern NY

The Thruway Authority says construction projects totaling $56 million are starting in western and eastern New York.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — The Thruway Authority says construction projects totaling $56 million are starting in western and eastern New York.

The agency says improvement work scheduled to last into next year has begun on Interstate 90 in Erie, Genesee and Monroe counties and I-190 in Erie County.

Officials say the projects, totaling nearly $29 million, will improve safety and upgrade infrastructure along two of western New York’s high-traffic stretches of the Thruway.

The Thruway Authority says two infrastructure and pavement projects are starting on the Interstate 87 section of the Thruway in neighboring Albany and Greene counties.

Officials say those projects will cost more than $27 million to upgrade a 20-mile stretch of highway between Exit 23 at Albany to Exit 21 at Catskill that serves nearly 50,000 motorists a day.
