State of Emergency declared in Orleans & Niagara Counties due to Lake Ontario flooding

A State of Emergency has been declared for two shoreline counties due to the anticipation of flooding from the rising waters of Lake Ontario.

ALBION, N.Y. — A State of Emergency has been declared for both Orleans and Niagara Counties due to the anticipation of flooding from the rising waters of Lake Ontario.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo was in Olcott Monday morning to announce an Emergency Order for the entire Lake Ontario shoreline. That order allows the state to bypass normal procurement laws to acquire flood-fighting materials, send National Guard troops, and establish a 5 MPH boat speed 1,000' from  the shore to reduce wakes.

There is no immediate threat to public safety.

Officials say there has been minimal flooding impacting low-lying areas based on wind and water levels.
