Police find missing girl with autism on Grand Island

Several police agencies, firefighters and EMS assisted State Police in searching for the girl.

GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. — State Police say they've found a missing girl with autism on Grand Island.

Troopers say the girl had wandered away from her home on Sturbridge Lane around 10 a.m. Friday.

Several police agencies, firefighters and EMS assisted State Police in searching for the girl.

A Border Patrol agent on Stony Point Road noticed the girl coming out the woods.  As soon as she saw the agent, the girl ran over to the officer and hugged him.

Police estimate she walked about a mile to a mile and a half from her home.

Because she was out in the cold weather for a couple of hours, the girl was taken to the hospital to be checked out.
