Kenmore water tower now coming down

The tower hasn't been in operation since the 1970s.

KENMORE, N.Y. — Work is now well underway on bringing down the old water tower in Kenmore.

Crews and large construction vehicles are there now taking down the 100-year-old structure at Elmwood and Mang Avenues.

The Kenmore Village Improvement Society said it hasn't been in operation as an actual water tower in quite some time, and it had became an eyesore.

2 On Your Side reached out to the Village of Kenmore Improvement Society who told us last month that the village board hired Wargo Enterprises of Akron to remove the lead paint and demolish the tower.

The tower hasn't been in operation since the 1970s.

The cost of the project is estimated at $773,000.

The project will involve replacing cell towers on the site of the water tower. While the project is taking place a "cell on wheels" portable antenna will be set up at Mang Park.
