BUFFALO, NY — On Saturday, people gathered in Lafayette Square to rally and protest President Donald Trump's ban on transgender servicemembers in the military.

The President sent out a memo last week saying that most transgender men and women would be "disqualified from military service except under limited circumstances."

The We Exist Coalition gathered Saturday with transgender veterans to say that they aren't any less qualified than their straight peers.

"I was one of the soldiers who was given the opportunity to serve openly under the Obama administration. I deployed for the November 2014 snow storms. There were no issues. No one cared about what bathroom I used, or where I slept," said Angela Burnham.

The Secretary of Defense could permit current transgender servicemembers to remain in uniform, but many in the military are waiting direction from the Pentagon.
