Potential illness outbreak at Jamestown McDonald's grows

The Chautauqua County Department of Health and Human Services has received more calls in response to the potential illness outbreak at McDonald's in Jamestown

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - A McDonald's is back open at of 6 p.m. Friday after a potential illness outbreak forced the restaurant to shut down.

The Chautauqua County Department of Health and Human Services has received more calls in response to the potential illness outbreak at McDonald's in Jamestown after after nearly two dozen people say they became ill after eating there.

That number has now grown. Public health nurses have now interviewed 28 new people who reported symptoms of nausea, vomiting or diarrhea after eating at the McDonald's located at 2803 North Main St. Extension.

The total number of people who have reported common signs and symptoms is now up to 50.

Health officials say the restaurant has been sanitized, the food and equipment were replaced, and the staff was retrained. They say they are confident that all requirement have been met to reopen the restaurant.

While the cause of this illness has not been determined at this time, the investigation is on-going in conjunction with the New York State Department of Health and with McDonald’s representatives.
