If you are looking for something to do with the family this weekend, you can check out "Paddles Up" at Beaver Island.

Grand Island, N.Y. — If you are looking for something to do with the family this weekend, you can check out "Paddles Up" at Beaver Island.

From 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, you can get out on the Niagara River with guided kayaking and tours.

There are two paddle sessions.

The early morning paddle at 8am is for moderate skill levels because it crosses the Niagara River. Paddlers will travel from the beach across the river channel, around Strawberry Island and Pirates Island and then back to the beach.

The late morning paddle begins at 11:30 a.m. from the 2B Shelter and is for all skill levels. Paddlers will go through Little Beaver Island, past the Jolly Reefers Launch area and then can go back to the beach or keep going to East River Marsh.

Two eco tours will also be offered, one starting at 7 a.m. and the other at 7:30 a.m.

On these eco tours, you can explore Strawberry Island Lagoon.

The tours will also cover the Beaver Island Habitat Improvement Project, which is a fish spawning area. It will also cover the East River Marsh which is an important avian and aquatic habitat area.

You must bring your own kayak. You can rent them before. Find out more info and register at bnwaterkeeper.org/paddlesup/.

Starting at noon Saturday, there will be a few food trucks on site plus a beer tent.
