Out 2 Eat: Ice Cream

This week in Out 2 Eat, reporter and former chef Joshua Robinson looks at the local ice cream scene, to find some unexpected surprises and hidden gems you may not know about

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Every week, 2 On Your Side’s Joshua Robinson takes a closer look at what’s new, unique, and happening across the Western New York food scene in “Out 2 Eat.”

And last week, when it was announced that we'd be celebrating local ice cream, the social media response was immediate:

Everyone had their suggestions, from Lake Effect Ice Cream to Sweet Jenny’s and plenty of other favorites, but Out 2 Eat is also about celebrating some of the food spots you might not know about… Maybe something a bit off the beaten path.

Like Adrian’s Custard and Beef in Grand Island, for example, where the restaurant didn’t move too far off path when then relocated to their new restaurant.

(It’s right across the street…)

Serving the sweet-salty combination of frozen custard and beef on weck for more than 30 years, their new restaurant is more than 5x bigger than their old location.

Visit them on Facebook or follow them on Instagram @adrianscnb if you’re planning a visit to Grand Island.

Speaking of ice cream shops with a legacy… Venture over to Lewiston if you want to visit Hibbard’s, who have been serving frozen custard for 80 years as a local favorite.

If you’re trying to figure out what flavors are available, keep in mind they like to change things up at Hibbard’s. You can follow their Instagram account @hibbardscustard, where they update the flavors daily.

And finally, what’s Out 2 Eat without something a little fun unique?

Ice cream has never been as glamorous as it is on Allen Street in Buffalo, where Mundy Cakes has been running an ice cream menu for a few weeks now… But the big, glittery highlight is their pink, glittery new waffle cones.

They’ve already become a big hit on social media, so check out their Facebook and Instagram (@mundycakes) accounts to see for yourself.

And don’t worry… These glittery pink beauties will be available all spring and summer long.
