New York seeks development plans for Niagara River parks

New York state wants to see more lodging and outdoor activities like zip lining at three state parks along the Niagara River.

LEWISTON, N.Y. (AP) - New York state wants to see more lodging and outdoor activities like zip lining at three state parks along the Niagara River.

The Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation said Tuesday it has released requests for proposals for development at Artpark, Joseph Davis State Park and Fort Niagara State Park, all in Niagara County.

Parks officials envision a recreational corridor that encourages hiking, cycling, birding and fishing.

At Artpark, the state is looking for private investment for the construction of cabins and challenge courses. The RFP for Joseph Davis State Park identifies multiple sites for similar projects, as well as opportunities to enhance the existing boat launch and fishing dock. The proposal for Fort Niagara State Park says there are multiple existing structures that can be reused.
