Tonawanda native part of new Army Museum

Archibald and six other National Guard soldiers served as life-sized models in an World War II exhibit.

TONAWANDA, N.Y. — Tonawanda native Sergeant Nick Archibald will be a permanent part of the new National Museum of the U.S. Army.

Archibald and six other National Guard soldiers served as life-sized models in an World War II exhibit.

The soldiers will be scaling a giant landing craft, depicting the invasion of Normandy on D-Day. The display is so large that the museum itself had to be constructed around it and three other giant displays.

The makers of the molds said they wanted real soldiers for the piece because it gives the figures a level of authenticity.

The museum is set to open in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, just outside of Washington, D.C. in 2020.
