The organization's president and CEO says she plans to still be involved. The gala is one of the largest fundraising affairs in Western New York.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Brenda McDuffie made a big announcement during the annual Buffalo Urban League Gala on Saturday night.

The organization's president and CEO announced that she is stepping down in 2020. She plans to still be involved.

The gala is one of the largest fundraising affairs in Western New York.

"What we do with the funds we raise this evening, a huge portion will go toward scholarship fund, which will enhance the lives of high school seniors who choose to go on to college," Moore said. "Plus some of the funds are used to help enhance some of the programs that we have at the Buffalo Urban League."

Two honorees at this year's dinner were former Buffalo councilman James Pitts, and the emerging leader award went to Jamil Crews.
