Man in custody following Seneca Street standoff

Buffalo Police say the man who barricaded himself inside an apartment on Seneca Street Monday afternoon is in custody.

BUFFALO, NY - The man who barricaded himself inside an apartment on Seneca Street Monday afternoon is in custody, according to Buffalo Police.

BPD Captain Jeff Rinaldo held a press conference following the standoff, which you can watch below:

BPD responded to a call for a welfare check around 1:30 p.m. at the apartment building on 192 Seneca Street. Several streets around the area were closed while police investigated.

Rinaldo says the man refused to come out from behind the door, and officers were working on the information that he possibly had a weapon. SWAT and Crisis Management was then called to the scene.

The SWAT team used tear gas to get the man out of the apartment, at which point the standoff ended after roughly three hours with no injuries.

Rinaldo also noted that a weapon was never recovered.

The man's name has not been released, but police say he is in his thirties and is now being treated at ECMC.
