Jammin' for Jessica fundraiser held for woman set on fire

In December, Jessica Cameron was set on fire by her ex-boyfriend outside of a Tim Hortons where she worked. On Saturday, an event helped her raise money for medical expenses.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo community came together around a woman who was badly hurt after being set on fire back in December.

This is the Jammin' for Jessica fundraiser at Mohawk Place.

On December 17, Jessica Cameron was set on fire by her ex-boyfriend outside of a Tim Hortons in Tonawanda.

She was just released from Erie County Medical Center last month.

As Jessica continues to recover, she's also facing the expenses for ongoing treatments and medical procedures.

The organizer of Saturday's event said he saw this as an opportunity to step up to help.

"I had a night set here at Mohawk Place, I was gonna do a fundraiser for a different charity, but that charity fell through on me," organizer Ryan Gurnett said. "And I said, 'I'm looking for something to do.'

"And then I saw Jessica's story like the next day, and it just kind of spoke to me. So I said, you know, it's a shame we can't do things about this before they happen, but if I can do something after it happens, that's at least the effect that I can have."

2 On Your Side spoke to Jessica and her family on Saturday. They're in good spirits, and they want to thank the community for their support.
