It's all about giving in the Badger family

There are a lot of smiles in the Badger home. It's not just about receiving, it's more about the spirit of giving.

Ask Joyce Badger what her favorite time of the year is and the response is simple.

"This is my favorite time of year, from Thanksgiving on. I'm just excited. I love, love, love to give," she said.

The wife, mother and grandmother is preparing her home to feast with dozens of relatives on Christmas Day. She knows how important it is to give and help others. She and her husband Bishop Michael Badger of Bethesda World Harvest Baptist Church taught the concept to their sons Demario and Armonde.

"I remember a time when we would get a certain amount of gifts, but then our dad and mom told us this year we're going to be giving some gifts away. It's just a constant giving," Demario Badger said. "I think this day is important but my mom has taught us you have to give throughout the entire year."

Armonde said he has watched his parents give his entire life.

"We have a culture in our family of giving back and putting others before ourselves and making sure somebody else can smile."

He is teaching the lesson to his children, including his 11-year-old daughter Brooke. She recalled going caroling with her dad, who is a Buffalo police officer and meeting a pregnant lady.

"I gave her son a basketball hoop and she almost got in tears and that's fulfilling, her joy gave me a smile on my face."

"That's the biggest joy for me, seeing my grandchildren being givers," said Joyce Badger.
