ERIE COUNTY, N.Y. — The Erie County Legislature approved a five year program to roll out body cameras to deputies with the Erie County Sheriff's Office.

The program will provide 209 body cameras supplied by AXON, with funding capped at $1,659,253 over the next five years. The agreement says those body cameras will come with unlimited storage, as well as evidence redaction software.

Erie County Legislator Lynne Dixon said in a statement, “This has been a lengthy process, as we have been working to get this program up and running for over several months. My colleagues and I are proud to support this initiative to increase public safety and accountability. Thank you to the Sheriff’s office and my colleagues in the Legislature for working together to get this done.”
