BUFFALO, NY-- Several felony complaints have been filed in Buffalo City Court involving former employees of a local nursing home.

The workers were employed at Highpointe on Michigan in Buffalo, which is operated by Kaleida Health.

A total of 17 complaints were filed in city court on Wednesday by the New York State Attorney General's Office.

Those arrested, we're told once worked at HighPointe, it's a relatively new health care facility on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.

The NYS Attorney General's office would not say what the exact charge is, however, a source close to the case says it has to do with patient abuse.

The CWA Union Local 1168 says six of those arrested are union members, and they were charged with allegedly falsifying documents and have been fired. "The falsification was related to patient care that was documented as being provided and allegedly was not," according to a statement from the union.

In a statement released Thursday evening, Kaleida spokesperson Michael Hughes said, "Kaleida Health has terminated 17 employees for neglectful care of one resident. This behavior, and lack of appropriate care, is unacceptable and will not be tolerated."

HighPointe is located on Michigan Avenue and has long term care and rehab facilities. It opened less than three years ago.

The suspects will be arraigned in Buffalo City Court on Friday at 2 p.m.
