Waterfront to be lit blue in honor of fallen Buffalo Police Officer

Officer Craig Lehner died two years ago this week during a training accident in the Niagara River. His family and friends will honor his memory Wednesday night.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Family and friends of Buffalo Police Officer Craig Lehner will be gathering Wednesday evening along the waterfront to honor and remember his life.

Lehner died in 2017 after he went missing during a training exercise on the Niagara River. His body was found October 17 following a five-day search. Officer Lehner was a member of the department's Underwater Recovery Team dive team as well as the K-9 unit.

On Wednesday night, the waterfront will be lit in blue in his honor.

Family and friends will be gathering at Lasalle Park at 6:30 p.m. Those who attend are also asked to wear blue.
