Buffalo Zoo meets a giant anteater named 'Maria'

The young mammal turns two years old on Wednesday and comes from the Santa Barbara Zoo.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Zoo's M&T Bank Rainforest Falls has a new member. "Maria" is a giant anteater who's come all the way across the country from the Santa Barbara Zoo in California.

The mammal has arrived just in time to celebrate turning two-years-old on Wednesday.

Zoo officials say Maria's settling in nicely in her new home.  She will share the anteater habitat with the resident older male anteater, Haji, but the two will not be out together. For now, Maria will have access in the mornings and Haji in the afternoon.

The zoo is encouraging everyone to come out and meet its newest resident and wish her a Happy Birthday!
