BUFFALO, N.Y. - The president and CEO of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, Matt Enstice, led a lunchtime walking tour to show off the development Wednesday.

Enstice said by the end of 2017, there will be roughly 17,000 jobs on the medical campus -- 3,000 of them are new jobs. There were about 7,000 jobs in 2002.

The amount of developed space will also double to nine million square feet.

The two largest projects on the BNMC are the University at Buffalo Medical School and John R. Oishei Children's Hospital, both of which are slated to open by the end of 2017.

The focus isn't just on health, according to Enstice. He said the future of the medical campus will concentrate heavily on technology and growing companies in that industry.

Enstice said 65 percent of the companies currently on the campus are technology based. He said future plans include renovating existing space so those companies have room to work and grow.
