Buffalo firefighters battle blazes on William, Summer streets

The William Street fire caused $250,000 in damage; the Red Cross is helping one person who lived there.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — It's also been a busy day for Buffalo firefighters.

They were on William Street around 9 a.m. Wednesday after a fire started in an upper apartment.

They're still looking into what caused the fire that did $250,000 in damage. The Red Cross is helping out a person who lived there.

Buffalo firefighters also had a challenge at a high rise in the Elmwood Village when a fire started at the Mayflower Apartments on Summer Street around midnight.

It started on one of the upper floors. Firefighters had to pull someone out of the building and get them to Erie County Medical Center.

We don't know how badly they were hurt, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
