BUFFALO, N.Y. – BlueCross BlueSheild (BCBS) of Western New York will reinstate the practices and affiliated providers of Dr. Eugene Gosy.

Dr. Gosy and all of his affiliated physicians were removed from the network last week after his office was closed.

While Dr. Gosy will remain a non-participating provider for BlueCross BlueShield, the nurse practitioners, physician assistants and other health care professionals in the practice will be covered as participating providers.

The Gosy & Associates office at 100 College Parkway in Williamsville is scheduled to re-open Monday, May 16.

BCBS members may contact the office directly to schedule an appointment.

BCBS officials tell us that Dr. Nancy Nielson from the University at Buffalo was instrumental in the reopening of Dr. Gosy’s practice.

Dr. Nielson and two physicians from Hospice Buffalo will help staff the office when doors open on Monday. They will be supervising the nurse practitioners and physician assistants who already work there.

Dr. Gosy had more than 9,000 patients so it’s expected Monday is going to be an extremely busy day for all concerned. Patients with immediate needs have already been scheduled and then doctors will see people on a case-by-case basis.

Dr. Gosy was indicted on 114 counts of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, health care fraud and other offenses, to which he has pleaded not guilty.

He is accused of illegally issuing hundreds of thousands of prescriptions for controlled substances. It's alleged that Dr. Gosy prescribed millions of prescription pills for no legitimate medical purpose in exchange for profit.
